Jenna Ortega has joined Natalie Portman and Sterling K. Brown in a new dark comedy film. The first glimpses of the upcoming project have finally been revealed, teasing a quirky take on the world of modern art.
People debuted the first look images of The Gallerist, featuring the film’s star-studded cast. One still shows Portman as the protagonist gallery owner, sporting a bold platinum blonde bob. She is admiring a large sculpture, called “The Emasculator,” in her museum. The actress is joined by Zach Galifianakis, who plays a social media influencer.
One photo shows Da’Vine Joy Randolph giving a speech at the museum, while another captures Jenna Ortega looking at Portman with a concerned look on her face. In the fourth image, Daniel Brühl and Catherine Zeta-Jones appear to be staring at something with contrasting expressions.
What is The Gallerist with Jenna Ortega about?
The Gallerist is a dark comedy thriller directed by Cathy Yan. The film follows gallerist Polina Polinski (Portman), who is preparing for her Art Basel premiere and invites art influencer Dalton Hardberry (Galifianakis) to review emerging artist Stella Burgess (Randolph).
When a gruesome death at the museum involving a work titled “The Emasculator” turns the event upside down, Polina takes drastic measures to transform the incident into a viral sensation.
Director Yan has recently praised Portman, saying, “She does it so well.” The filmmaker added, “When she’s on set, I think she really tries to stay in character and be the actor. But then in prep and then in post-production, she really puts on her producer hat.”
Zeta-Jones also sang the praises of her co-star during an interview with People, saying, “I have been a huge fan of Natalie, and she was everything that I wanted her to be.” The Oscar winner gushed about Ortega as well, noting “what a joy it is working with” her. Zeta-Jones had previously shared the screen with Ortega in Netflix’s hit series Wednesday.
Jenna Ortega stars as Kiki Gorman, Polina’s assistant, and Sterling K. Brown plays Tom, a canned tuna tycoon and Polina’s ex-husband. The movie also stars Brühl, Zeta-Jones, Charli XCX, and Youssef Kerkour.
The Gallerist had its world premiere at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival on January 24, 2026. The movie arrives in theaters on December 4, 2026.
