Prince Harry recently addressed what prompted him to consider moving back to the UK with Meghan Markle and their children. The family stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and relocated to California. The remarks came more than a month after Harry’s private reunion with King Charles.
Prince Harry reveals reason behind moving to UK
In a recent interview with GQ, Prince Harry said that “opportunities” were the reason that made him relocate to the UK. He clarified that he was referring to opportunities for his family, including the possibility of enrolling his children, Archie and Lilibet, in British schools.
“I didn’t know how important it was to me. I always thought it would be something I would try and do, or we would try and do, but now that they’ve been in school for two weeks they’re loving it and it’s just giving them a whole different experience,” he continued.
The Duke of Sussex further stated that he isn’t criticizing the schools in America. He believes that his kids of seven and five should have the chance to explore two different cultures, as he thinks it’s important. He also views the relocation as a chance to be closer to his family. Harry added that he wanted to be in the UK longer than the usual time of a few days or week.
“It’s been nice to be close to friends, family, friends and their children, as well. We’ve had endless playdates to really help our kids to settle in,” Prince Harry elaborated. He mentioned that the relocation wasn’t something they planned for a long time.
At present, the Sussexes reside outside London in a non-royal base and haven’t been provided with taxpayer-funded security. Archie and Lilibet were initially enrolled in another school. Their school was changed just a few days later due to security concerns.
