Prince Harry recently opened up about reconciliation with Prince William. He reflected on how family issues are common in most people’s lives but made it clear that he intends to repair his relationship with his father and brother. He admitted that the scars from the past may remain, but what matters now is having the mindset to let things go and start afresh.
Prince Harry talks about royal family reconciliation
In a conversation with GQ, host Zach Baron asked Prince Harry whether he felt sorrow over his strained bond with Prince William and King Charles. Harry explained, “Yes, of course.” He continued, “I think from a family perspective — again, another massively relatable issue for so many people — sibling disagreements, broken relationships between kids and their parents, kids and one parent. That continues to come up with me the whole time with people that I speak to, so I know how relatable it is.”
He said some people look to him and wonder how he will ease tensions in his fractured relationships. He believes that seeing his efforts to reconcile could encourage them to work through their own family issues. The Duke of Sussex further added that some people do not want their relationships to improve. However, he believes that is not the case for him, as he genuinely wants his relationships to get better. He believes that in a world going through so much, it is important to let go of the past and reunite.
The host further asked him whether he believed the wounds could actually be fixed. To this, Harry responded, “Scars stick around forever. But what your perception is, and what your mindset is to those things that have happened, letting go of the past. That’s something that I would encourage everybody to do: If there’s certain things from the past that are still affecting you every day, that’s harder to let go of.” Harry stated that with so much drama in the world and other people’s lives, he sees no point in holding on to familial issues.
