Meghan Markle’s recent London meeting with Nobel Laureate Malala Yousafzai was intentional, according to an expert. The Duchess of Sussex went for her first official solo outing in London since returning to the UK. As per reports, she met Yousafzai, and the duo was spotted grabbing a meal at Claridge’s on October 7. The luxury hotel is located in London’s upscale Mayfair neighborhood. Based on a new development, it appears their meeting was deliberate.
Expert reveals reason behind Meghan Markle’s recent UK meet
Meghan Markle’s London outing with Malala Yousafzai was seemingly for her personal image-building. According to royal editor Helen Coffey, the Duchess of Sussex is trying to ensure the public perceives her in a positive light. Hence, who she is photographed with is significant.
Coffey revealed to The Independent that Markle may be eager to brush off the “frivolous ‘just add edible flowers!’ la la land image.” Instead, she is keen to foster a more “serious” persona. The duchess reportedly wants people to take her more seriously as a feminist icon.
Rob Shuter also echoed similar sentiments on his blog. The Hollywood insider stated that the Duchess of Sussex deliberately chose Claridge’s because she wanted to be seen. Shuter emphasized that Markle chose to be spotted with the young Nobel Prize winner because “she wants to be taken seriously as a humanitarian.”
Sources claimed that the Duchess of Sussex’s first choice for a headline-making photograph was international human rights lawyer Amal Clooney. However, she couldn’t meet Amal. Hence, Malala became the next-best choice.
Shuter explained that Markle is desperately trying to copy her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, and wants to champion a humanitarian cause just like her. She previously discussed girls’ education with Yousafzai. And now, reconnecting with her allows her to take the matter forward.
The source added: “She wants her Princess Diana moment, a cause so powerful that people stop talking about the drama and start talking about her impact.”
