King Charles Accused of ‘Royal Gaslighting’ With Diana Memoir Statement — Report

King Charles’ response to Princess Diana’s memoir has raised eyebrows. A former royal correspondent referred to the content of the statement as “royal gaslighting.” Earl Spencer is set to publish his new book, “Swan Song: Diana, My Sister,” in which he has criticized the monarch. In response, Buckingham Palace released a statement. It took a dig at the late princess’ brother and mentioned, “Fraternal grief can cloud reason.”

Former royal correspondent claims King Charles made a wrong move by releasing Diana memoir statement

King Charles’ statement related to Earl Spencer’s Diana memoir has caught everyone’s attention. BBC’s former royal correspondent, Peter Hunt, shared his opinion during the network’s Newsnight hour. He expressed his thoughts against Buckingham Palace’s response to the new book. According to him, the king was “absolutely incandescent” and should not have released such a statement.

“There are times when silence is the right answer,” Hunt commented. He claimed that his response worked in Spencer’s favor, as it technically “boosted the sale of this book.” Furthermore, he said that the content of the statement was “royal gaslighting” and criticized the phrasing of the lines. He wished Charles wouldn’t have “pressed send.”

Last month, Earl Spencer announced his new book, “Swan Song: Diana, My Sister.” In it, he has opened up about the late princess and Charles’ troubled marriage. He also revealed a phone call between him and the then-Prince of Wales after Diana’s death. According to the brother, the king told him, “Rest assured, we’ll forget Diana soon enough.”

Meanwhile, the memoir bombshells didn’t seem to sit well with the monarch. Soon, Buckingham Palace released a statement. It stated, “While we do not comment on books as a matter of principle, His Majesty is mindful that the pain of fraternal grief can cloud reason, affect judgment, and color memory in ways others do not recognize, even many years after such a loss.”
