Meghan Markle ‘Needed’ This Key Status in the Royal Family — Author

Meghan Markle allegedly “needed” a key status in the British Royal Family, according to a royal author. The actress’ tenure as a senior working royal was short. She and her husband, Prince Harry, stepped away from their royal duties in 2020. They also left behind the UK, moving to the US to start afresh. Now, after six years in California, they have once again moved back to Britain.

Author reveals Meghan Markle wanted to be the ‘leading lady’ in the Royal Family

In her book The Palace Papers: Inside The House Of Windsor – The Truth And The Turmoil, royal author Tina Brown revealed that Meghan Markle allegedly wanted the “leading-lady status” in the Royal Family. The journalist claimed this came after Prince Harry and Meghan completed their Australia tour after their wedding. She wrote, “She had starred in the equivalent of a blockbuster film and wanted her leading-lady status to be reflected in lights” (via The Mirror).

Brown added that the “Suits” star could not understand why she was not congratulated. Meghan reportedly felt that the monarchy “needed her more than she needed them”. In the book, she wrote that the Duchess failed to grasp why no one told her “well done” when they returned from their 16-day tour of Australia, New Zealand, Tonga, and Fiji in 2018. This was the newlyweds’ first royal tour after tying the knot.

However, Meghan struggled to understand the purpose of the royal engagements. A former palace employee even told Brown that the actress believed the visits were “old-fashioned.” Reportedly, she thought it would be better to highlight the causes she stood for.

Since stepping down as a working royal, the Duchess of Sussex has tried her hand at a few things, including podcasting and a Netflix show. Her latest business venture is the lifestyle brand As Ever. It offers products like candles, wines, jams, and other home goods. She moved back to the UK with Prince Harry and their children last month. She now allegedly plans to move the business there.
