Digger Trailer Gives Final Look at Tom Cruise’s Oscar-Worthy Performance Before Movie Arrives

The final Digger trailer is here, giving audiences a closer look at Tom Cruise‘s dramatic transformation. The film is directed and co-written by four-time Academy Award winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu.

The upcoming film moves Cruise away from the action-heavy roles he has become known for and puts him at the center of a dark comedy about an impending disaster. Cruise plays Digger Rockwell, an eccentric Southern billionaire with a distinctive comb-over who is described as the most powerful man in the world.

After unleashing a disaster that threatens civilization, Rockwell sets out on a chaotic mission to convince everyone that he is actually the person who can save humanity. His transformation has already generated awards-season buzz, with some early reactions suggesting he could emerge as a Best Actor contender.

Who else stars in the Digger trailer besides Tom Cruise?

The final trailer also offers a closer look at the film’s supporting cast. Oscar nominees Sandra Hüller (Anatomy of a Fall) and Jesse Plemons appear alongside Cruise as the situation surrounding Rockwell grows increasingly chaotic.

The ensemble also includes Oscar winner Riz Ahmed, John Goodman as the President of the United States, Michael Stuhlbarg, Emma D’Arcy, Sophie Wilde (Talk to Me), Burn Gorman, and Robert John Burke.

Iñárritu co-wrote the screenplay with Alexander Dinelaris, Nicolás Giacobone, and Sabina Berman. The director also reunites with three-time Oscar-winning cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, who shot the film entirely in VistaVision.

VistaVision is a widescreen 35mm film format introduced by Paramount Pictures in 1954. Unlike standard 35mm film formats, which move the film vertically through the camera gate, VistaVision runs the film horizontally across eight perforations per frame.

This creates an image area roughly twice the size of a conventional 35mm frame. The format gives Digger a larger image area and a distinctive visual presentation.

Digger will be released exclusively in theaters and IMAX on October 2, 2026, by Warner Bros. Pictures.
