Donald Trump Picks a Side in Prince Harry-Prince William Rift

Prince William has found an unexpected ally in U.S. President Donald Trump, who recently rebuked Prince Harry during a press interaction. For those unversed, on September 2, reporters asked President Trump to share his thoughts on Harry and Meghan leaving the U.S. to return to the UK. Trump confessed he was not a fan of the Sussexes and was happy that they moved back to Britain. Not only that, but he also showed support for the Prince of Wales and how he thinks the Duke of Sussex did not treat him right.

Donald Trump says Prince Harry treated Prince William in a ‘terrible way’

Donald Trump voiced support for Prince William while criticizing Prince Harry over his treatment of his older brother. Trump did not hold back on his thoughts on the Sussexes when he interacted with Oval Office reporters. The U.S. President confessed he was “happy” that the Sussexes had left California to return to the UK, adding, “I was not a fan” (via PEOPLE).

In a separate interview with GB News on September 3, Trump again praised King Charles, stating: “Everybody loved him in America. He’s spoken for the Congress; he is a fantastic guy. He’s been a fan of me for a long time. I knew him as Prince Charles and then King Charles.”

The President then pivoted his thoughts to taking a jibe at Harry and Meghan. He commented: “What she has done — and him. You know, he wrote a book that was very terrible to William. It was terrible, the things he said. I would not have taken them back. I would’ve never spoken to them again.”

Trump continued shading the former Suits star, stating that the Sussexes “treated the royal family with great disrespect.” Continuing further, he said: “I didn’t like it. I didn’t like the way she acted. I thought she was terribly disrespectful to the Queen, to King Charles.”

William and Harry have had a strained relationship for years, with tensions becoming more public after Harry and Meghan stepped down as working royals in 2020 and moved to California. Their 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey brought further scrutiny to the family’s internal tensions, while Harry’s January 2023 memoir, Spare, included detailed accounts of his relationship with William. The Independent reported that Trump was specifically referring to Harry’s treatment of his brother in the book.
