Scott Speedman’s R.J. Decker Season 2 gets September release date with new teaser

ABC is giving Dancing With the Stars and R.J. Decker an unexpected crossover for the night of their upcoming season premieres. The network will air the Season 35 opener of Dancing With the Stars first, followed immediately by the Season 2 debut of R.J. Decker. This scheduling will have Scott Speedman’s crime procedural directly in the path of one of television’s biggest unscripted audiences.

Three Dancing With the Stars favorites will appear on the Season 2 premiere of R.J. Decker, airing Tuesday, September 15 at 10 p.m. ET. Pro dancers and real-life married couple Jenna Johnson and Val Chmerkovskiy will appear alongside season 33 champion Joey Graziadei from The Bachelor.

The new teaser offers a first look at that sequence. It shows Speedman’s private investigator character crossing paths with the trio in a lively scene. It blends the show’s Florida noir tone with ballroom flair. ABC released photos alongside the teaser, making the cameo a can’t-miss moment for viewers of both series.

R.J. Decker follows a former newspaper photographer and ex-con who starts over as a private investigator in South Florida. The series tracks Decker as he tackles cases that range from slightly odd to outright bizarre, with the help of his journalist ex, her police detective wife, his former cellmate-turned confidant, and a shadowy woman from his past. Inspired by Carl Hiaasen’s novel Double Whammy, the show comes from creator and showrunner Rob Doherty.

The cast includes Jaina Lee Ortiz as Emilia “Emi” Ochoa, Bevin Bru as Detective Melody “Mel” Abreu, Kevin Rankin as Aloysius “Wish” Aiken, and Adelaide Clemens as Catherine Delacroix.

The comedy crime procedural debuted earlier in 2026 and set a five-year ratings record for ABC’s 10 p.m. time slot following its March 3 premiere. It drew 3.69 million live plus same-day viewers and, within six days, amassed 11.64 million multiplatform viewers across ABC, Hulu, Hulu on Disney+, digital platforms, and two linear encores.
