Harry Shum Jr.’s impressive Dancing With the Stars run has earned praise from his Grey’s Anatomy co-star. Scott Speedman says Shum Jr.’s dancing skills “blow his mind.”
Shum Jr. and professional partner Jenna Johnson performed a jive during “Yacht Rock Night.” They danced to Daryl Hall & John Oates’ “You Make My Dreams (Come True)” and earned 24 points from the judges. The score became the highest of DWTS Season 35 at that point.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Speedman said, “I’ve seen clips of Harry, what he’s doing. He’s a great actor. It always blows my mind too when people are — because I’m just an actor, you know what I mean? And then I see people that are acting and all of a sudden they’re singing in a movie, and they’re like incredible singers, incredible dancers as well.”
The Grey’s Anatomy star then added, “I have none of those skills, so I don’t know what I’d be doing.”
Why Scott Speedman isn’t surprised Harry Shum Jr. is excelling on DWTS
Speedman isn’t surprised by Shum Jr.’s success because he already knows his co-star is highly talented. Although he has not watched a full episode, he has seen clips of Shum Jr.’s performances on Instagram and has been impressed by what he saw.
The actor said, “I’m not surprised, but it’s amazing to see. I have not sat down and watched the show yet just because of work and stuff, but I see clips on Instagram, and he looks amazing. I’m not surprised he’s doing well. He’s a great guy and a really good actor. We’re very lucky to have him on Grey’s Anatomy.”
Shum Jr. and Speedman have shared the screen on Grey’s Anatomy since Season 19 began in 2022. Shum Jr. plays surgical resident Dr. Benson “Blue” Kwan on the ABC medical drama. Speedman portrays Dr. Nick Marsh.
Shum Jr.’s DWTS appearance gives him another chance to showcase a skill outside his regular acting work. His partnership with Johnson has already produced one of the season’s best scores.
Meanwhile, both shows are continuing their current runs. Grey’s Anatomy Season 23 premieres October 15 on ABC. Dancing With the Stars Season 35 continues Tuesdays on ABC and Disney+.
