Joseph Olmo has confirmed his exit from NBC4 Washington after nearly a decade in broadcast journalism. The anchor announced the career change during Sunday’s broadcast, telling viewers that he will leave local news after nearly 10 years in the profession.
Olmo used his final moments on air to reflect on his career and explain his decision to pursue another professional path. “For the better part of a decade, which includes three thrilling years right here at NBC 4, I have had one remarkable job,” he said.
Olmo also praised NBC4 Washington, describing his time at the station as “remarkable” and “so cool.” He explained that his decision was influenced by his desire to pursue another ambition. “In life, you are often encouraged to dream big. But what happens when you have several dreams? I firmly believe our time here is way too short to get to the end and wonder – what if I had tried that?” the anchor said.
Olmo added, “So after almost 10 years in broadcasting, tomorrow night I will hit the streets of the DMV [DC, Maryland and Virginia area] one final time as a local news reporter.” He has not publicly revealed what career he plans to pursue next. However, the anchor did suggest that his next move would not come as a surprise to people who know him well.
Olmo concluded by thanking his colleagues at NBC4 Washington and the viewers who followed his work. He said, “And to my entire NBC 4 family, I say thank you for letting me be part of this accomplished team.
