Veteran Anchor Returns to NBC Affiliate Station After 19-Month Hiatus

Veteran Las Vegas anchor John Huck confirmed his next move after leaving Fox 5 abruptly in 2025. The longtime news personality revealed where he’s heading next and when viewers can expect to see him back on screen.

John Huck to join NBC affiliate station KSNV News 3

Veteran Las Vegas anchor John Huck returns to local television after a 19-month break by joining NBC affiliate KSNV News 3, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported. KSNV General Manager Larry Strumwasser confirmed the move on Sunday. “Looking forward to John joining the News 3 family,” Strumwasser said (via NEON). He also added that Huck would likely make his on-air debut Tuesday on the 6 a.m. newscast.

Huck previously spent 23 years at KVVU-TV, the Fox network affiliate widely branded as Fox 5 in Las Vegas. During that time, he hosted “The Rant” segment, where viewers anonymously vented on voicemail about daily issues. However, he left the station abruptly in February 2025.

At the time of his departure, Huck posted on LinkedIn that he was leaving TV news after 37 years. He also wrote that he was “excited to launch my own company serving markets I know well.” That post was quickly taken down, and station officials offered no explanation for his exit.

Meanwhile, Huck’s social media profiles currently list him as a business consultant and the founder of Huck Communications. He has not responded to requests for comment about his new role. Additionally, the station has made no formal announcement, and his bio does not yet appear on the KSNV website.

Originally from Chicago, Huck anchored CNN Headline News in the 1990s. He then joined Fox 5 in 2002 after stints at KCBS in Los Angeles and WPGH in Pittsburgh. The Nevada Broadcasters Hall of Fame inducted him in 2010.

Beyond his broadcasting career, Huck has also contributed to community causes in Las Vegas. His philanthropic work includes co-hosting The Animal Foundation’s annual Best in Show dog-adoption event at the Thomas & Mack Center.
