Tobey Maguire‘s Spider-Man may be set for a long-awaited change if he returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A new rumor suggests that his version of the character could receive an updated suit for the upcoming Avengers films. It could also bring Maguire’s Spider-Man closer to the treatment Tom Holland’s character has received in the MCU.
Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man may finally get a new suit in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars
Tobey Maguire could be getting a major costume update if he returns as Spider-Man in Marvel’s upcoming Avengers films.
According to insider Daniel Richtman, the studio has been developing a new suit for Maguire’s version of the character, which could make its debut in Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars. The insider claims Maguire’s Doomsday scene was filmed using motion capture because the physical suit was still being developed. It is reportedly not the Iron Spider suit, with the new design said to remain closer to Maguire’s original costume.
Richtman reported, “Tobey filmed his ‘Doomsday’ scene in mocap because they were working on a new suit for him but didn’t complete it in time. He’s expected to wear it either in reshoots or in ‘Secret Wars.’ It’s not the Iron Spider suit – apparently, it’s just an upgraded version of his original suit.” For now, the reported costume remains unconfirmed, but the possibility would give Maguire’s version of Spider-Man a new look if he returns to the role.
Maguire last played Spider-Man in Spider-Man: No Way Home, where he appeared alongside Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield. He wore a costume closely based on the suit from his original Spider-Man films. Rumors have continued to circulate about his potential role, including claims that he could have a significant presence in the upcoming Avengers films. However, as of now, Maguire’s participation in Avengers: Doomsday has not been officially confirmed.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
