John David Washington has been cast in a new supernatural horror movie. The Tenet star’s role in the movie Mime has not yet been revealed. However, some exclusive details were recently released about the horror flick.
According to Deadline, the movie will be set in a New York City apartment complex during a heat wave blackout.
Stephen Herman has written the story based on an original idea. The production will reportedly begin in spring.
Mime will be directed by Nikyatu Jusu. The Sierra Leonean American writer and director’s previous works include short films and one episode of Two Sentence Horror Stories. However, her most famous work is her first feature movie, Nanny. The psychological movie earned 11 wins, including the Sundance Grand Jury Prize.
Washington, Matt Tolmach, Camila Grove, and Scott Derrickson will serve as producers. In other details, Sony Screen Gems beat Amazon and Searchlight for the ownership of Mime. No official logline has been released yet.
What else has John David Washington been in besides Tenet?
Before venturing into acting, John David Washington was a professional football player. However, the star first made a cameo in Spike Lee’s Malcolm X, alongside his father, Denzel Washington.
The Tenet star returned to acting in 2015, taking on the role of Ricky Jerret in HBO’s Ballers, which ran through 2019. Since then, he has acted in other projects, which include Love Beats Rhymes, Monsters and Men, Monster, The Old Man & the Gun, Beckett, Amsterdam, The Creator, Malcolm & Marie, and The Piano Lesson.
However, the former athlete broke through by playing Ron Stallworth in Lee’s BlacKkKlansman. In 2020, he was cast as the protagonist in Christopher Nolan’s Tenet.
BlacKkKlansman earned the actor Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations. Nolan’s sci-fi action thriller earned him the Saturn Award for Best Actor.
David Washington will next be seen in the off-Broadway tech thriller play Disruption at Pershing Square Signature Center in Manhattan. It will run through October 2026.
