Disclosure Day Isn’t Letting Its Box Office Disappointment Slow It Down at All

Despite its underwhelming theatrical run, viewership of Disclosure Day has continued to build momentum following the film’s digital release. The Steven Spielberg-directed science fiction film has remained at the top of the iTunes movie download charts for more than two weeks, outperforming several newer releases. The latest rankings point to sustained interest from audiences on digital platforms.

Despite its disappointing theatrical performance, Disclosure Day is finding a much stronger audience response through digital platforms.

The film currently ranks No. 1 on the 2026 iTunes Top Movie Downloads chart. Since its digital release on July 21, it has remained at the top for more than two weeks. This reflects a sustained interest among audiences following its theatrical run. The film has also remained ahead of films including Evil Dead Burn, Supergirl, Backrooms, Obsession, and others.

Directed by Steven Spielberg from a screenplay by David Koepp, the science fiction film was released in U.S. theaters on June 12, 2026. The science fiction film follows Kansas City television meteorologist Margaret Fairchild, whose life changes after an unexplained incident causes her to speak an alien language during a live weather forecast. 

The viral broadcast attracts the attention of the Wardex Corporation, a private intelligence organization responsible for managing extraterrestrial secrets. At the same time, cybersecurity analyst turned whistleblower Dr. Daniel Kellner sets out to reveal the evidence he has collected to the public.

Emily Blunt stars as Margaret Fairchild, with Josh O’Connor portraying Dr. Daniel Kellner. The cast also includes Colin Firth as Noah Scanlon, Eve Hewson as Jane Blankenship, Colman Domingo as Hugo Wakefield, and Wyatt Russell as Jackson, among others.

According to Box Office Mojo, Disclosure Day has grossed approximately $240.6 million worldwide as of now. This includes about $116.6 million from domestic theaters and more than $124 million from international territories.

The film received positive reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds a 79 percent critics score based on 429 reviews, while its audience score stands at 70 percent.
