Hollywood actress Cate Blanchett praises Prince William
Prince William has been described as “extraordinary” by Cate Blanchett, who collaborates with the future King on his Earthshot initiative. The “Elizabeth” actress is also a member of The Prince of Wales’ Earthshot Prize Council.
The Oscar-winning actress lauded Prince William’s concern for the environment and his creation of the Earthshot Prize, which aims to invest in innovative climate solutions. She also noted that his environmental passion comes from his father and that he works closely on Earthshot.
In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK, the Australian actress said, “(He’s been) an extraordinary leader, very hands-on in a consistent and practically engaged way. He has inherited that interest (from the King). He’s grown up with it.”
Last year, William and Blanchett made a joint visit to the Norwich base of UK company Colorifix to learn about its sustainable clothing dye. Both wore lab coats during the visit and appeared to enjoy learning about the process together.
Every year, the Earthshot Prize Council names five winners of The Earthshot Prize at a judging session overseen by Jesper Brodin, Chair of The Earthshot Prize. Each receives £1 million to expand their project and help repair the planet.
The Prince of Wales has assumed greater responsibilities within the Royal Family, spearheading initiatives through The Royal Foundation. In addition to the Earthshot Prize, his work on mental health programs, including “Heads Together,” has attracted international attention. He is also the president of BAFTA, and patron to major charities such as Tusk Trust and Centrepoint.
Cate Blanchett has been an advocate for the arts and sustainability for many years. She views this common focus as significant. The Academy Award winner has also commented on public figures using their influence for tangible results, which reflects in the royal heir’s work.
