Pop icon Ariana Grande has decided to temporarily step away from the spotlight after her ongoing Eternal Sunshine tour concludes. She has accordingly decided to depart the West End theater revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George. The production will reportedly continue on to its expected premiere date without her.

A representative for Ariana Grande has confirmed that the hitmaker has exited the West End theater revival of Sunday in the Park with George. Her departure from the musical will be a part of a longer break that Grande will go on after her Eternal Sunshine tour concludes on September 1, 2026.
“She looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily, and then taking a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny,” the spokesperson told People. “This tour has been a beautiful experience for her. She loves her fans and has loved every minute of this tour so much.”
A source close to the 33-year-old singer also noted, “She performs a very physical show, and there is a lot of athleticism involved. She performs healthily and successfully at a very high level night after night.”
Ariana Grande had initially boarded the Sunday in the Park with George lineup as Dot and Marie, which would’ve seen her reunite with her Wicked co-star Jonathan Bailey, who is playing Georges. Directed by Marianne Elliott, the West End theater revival is still on track to open at the Barbican Centre in London in mid-2027.
Even though the singer is officially leaving the musical, an insider close to Grande noted that she “cannot wait to support the brilliant team bringing this project to life.”
