Anthony Mackie’s biggest box office flop just found a new home on streaming. The post-apocalyptic thriller that struggled in theaters arrives on Hulu this August with a growing fan following behind it.
Elevation starts streaming on Hulu in August
Elevation, the 2024 post-apocalyptic action thriller starring Anthony Mackie, arrives on Hulu on August 22, 2026. According to the Hulu August 2026 schedule, the film joins alongside other new additions that day.
George Nolfi directed the film from a screenplay by Kenny Ryan and Jacob Roman. Morena Baccarin and Maddie Hasson co-star alongside Mackie in the survival thriller. The story follows survivors living above 8,000 feet to avoid deadly creatures called Reapers. Mackie plays Will, a single father searching for oxygen filters for his sick son. The film explores humanity’s fight against mysterious apex predators that wiped out 95% of the population.
Vertical originally distributed Elevation in theaters on November 8, 2024. The film earned just $3.6 million at the domestic box office against an $18 million budget. It debuted with $1.2 million from 1,416 theaters during its opening weekend. The theatrical run placed it 11th at the box office alongside releases like Heretic and Anora.
However, Elevation found new life through streaming platforms in 2025. The film became a sleeper hit on Amazon Prime Video roughly a year after its theatrical debut. FlixPatrol analytics showed it climbing into Prime Video’s Top 5 globally by mid-July 2025. It also spent 83 days in the HBO Max Top 10 as of September 2025. The streaming resurgence benefited from Mackie’s popularity and strong word-of-mouth recommendations.
On Rotten Tomatoes, 54% of 57 critics’ reviews are positive for the film. Metacritic assigned it a score of 50 out of 100 based on nine critics. Principal photography took place in Colorado, beginning in November 2022 and wrapping by late March 2023.
