Daniel Craig and David Fincher’s acclaimed R-rated thriller The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is set to join Netflix’s streaming library next month. According to What’s on Netflix, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo will be available to stream on Netflix beginning August 15, 2026.
Directed by David Fincher from a screenplay by Steven Zaillian, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is an adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s bestselling 2005 novel of the same name. The film premiered in U.S. theaters on December 21, 2011.
The story centers on investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist, who is forced to step away from his magazine after losing a libel case. He is then approached by industrialist Henrik Vanger, who asks him to write the history of the influential Vanger family. However, Henrik’s real motive is to have Blomkvist investigate the disappearance of his niece, Harriet Vanger. She vanished in 1966 and is believed to have been murdered by someone within the family.
To continue the investigation, he recruits hacker Lisbeth Salander. Her extensive research helps uncover the truth behind Harriet’s disappearance and the Vanger family’s darkest secrets. The film stars Craig as Mikael Blomkvist and Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander. They are joined by Christopher Plummer as Henrik Vanger and Stellan Skarsgård as Martin Vanger, among others.
