Tom Cruise is reportedly “devastated” following the news that his daughter Suri has officially changed her name and dropped his surname. The move adds another chapter to the far-apart relationship he shares with his daughter and ex-wife Katie Holmes.
According to RadarOnline.com, Suri was born in 2006 during the high-profile union of Cruise and Holmes. Reports state that she is now legally using Suri Noelle after replacing her dad’s last name with her mom’s middle name.
A source close to the actor said, “Tom is deeply saddened by this development. While he understands Suri is an adult making her own decisions, seeing his surname disappear from her legal identity has been incredibly painful for him. He never imagined things would reach this point.”
They further claimed, “Those close to Tom believe this is an emotional blow rather than a legal one. He still cares enormously about Suri and hopes that, one day, there will be an opportunity to rebuild their relationship. Right now, though, friends say he feels heartbroken and devastated by what this represents.”

Now a student at Carnegie Mellon University, the musical theater major filed her Pennsylvania voter registration as Suri Noelle after moving from New York. With Pennsylvania requiring legal names on voter rolls, the registration suggests the name change is now formal. The budding actress previously used Noelle in her 2024 New York high school graduation program.
