Prince William and Princess Catherine have “made it clear” to King Charles that they’re aiming to strike a balance between royal duties and family time, as Prince George entered his teenage years.
On the occasion of his 13th birthday, the couple kept up with their yearly tradition and shared a new portrait of their son. Hours later, the Prince and Princess of Wales also posted an 18-second video on social media featuring the young prince.
The Wales’ firstborn may be the future monarch of the UK and grow up in privilege. But his parents plan to keep his upbringing as normal and grounded as possible.
In a past interview with Hello! Magazine, Robert Jobson, writer of Catherine: The Princess of Wales, had shared, “William and Catherine have made it clear to the King that they are committed to balancing royal duties with family life and it will be the same this year.”
Jobson noted the Prince and Princess of Wales are prioritizing the royal heir’s growth as a decent person. They see this as key to him becoming a capable future monarch. The author explained that they want George, Charlotte, and Louis to grow into grounded adults. The aim is for them to be ready for their responsibilities when the time comes.
This coming school year, Prince George will begin at Eton College, the institution where both his father and his uncle, Prince Harry, studied. Founded in 1440 by Henry VI and known for its exclusivity, Eton is one of Britain’s oldest public schools. The institution counts 20 former prime ministers and generations of British and foreign royals among its former pupils.
