Authorities have arrested Andrew Tate and his brother, Tristan Tate, in Miami, as the UK seeks extradition. The controversial social media figures are facing additional criminal charges. The Tate brothers were previously charged with sexual assault, human trafficking, and organized crime.
The Tate Brothers got arrested in Miami
U.S. Marshals took Andrew Tate and his brother, Tristan Tate, into custody on Saturday in Miami. The UK is seeking extradition as British prosecutors have announced 38 new charges against the brothers.
“Today, U.S. Marshals in the Southern District of Florida arrested Andrew and Tristan Tate pursuant to extradition proceedings,” a Justice Department spokesperson said in a statement. “These arrests were made in accordance with the treaties and law enforcement agreements governing Justice Department extraditions.”
The CPS said that British prosecutors will begin extradition proceedings against the brothers following their arrest. The Tate brothers are dual British-US citizens. Malcolm McHaffie, Head of the Special Crime Division at the CPS, said, “These charging decisions followed receipt of a further file of evidence from Bedfordshire Police and bring the total number of alleged victims in this case to seven.”
Assistant Chief Constable of the Bedfordshire Police, Karena Thomas, also gave a statement. “Officers from our major crime unit have been working closely alongside the Crown Prosecution Service and both national and international law enforcement agencies as part of this complex investigation,” she said.
Thomas added, “We understand the interest that this case will generate, but we would urge the public not to speculate and to allow the legal process to be carried out correctly. There is no place for male violence against women and girls, and we will continue to work tirelessly to support victims and investigate all reports made to us.”
With the 38 new charges against the Tate brothers, the total number of charges against the pair is now 59. Of those, Andrew Tate is facing 42 charges, while Tristan Tate faces 17.
