Prince Harry recently attended the red carpet event of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People in Sports. Ahead of it, the outlet recognized him for the creation of the Invictus Games. This appearance comes after Harry, along with his wife, Meghan Markle, and their kids, Archie and Lilibet, reunited with King Charles and Queen Camilla during their UK visit.
TIME honored Harry for the Invictus Games shortly after his King Charles reunion
On Thursday, Prince Harry appeared at TIME’s event held in New York City. As he posed for the photos, he complimented the event photographers, calling them the “most polite” ones. The news magazine honored the Duke of Sussex for the Invictus Games, an international multi-sport competition for wounded, injured, and sick military personnel and veterans. He founded these games in 2014. The idea for such an event came to him after he witnessed the U.S. Olympic Committee’s Warrior Games in 2013.
In a conversation with TIME, Prince Harry reflected on the games’ widespread impact. He said, “I thought, ‘Wow, look at the power of sport; look at how it is literally changing lives in front of my very eyes. It was so clear to me. Let’s invite as many countries as possible to make it international. Because clearly more countries need to benefit from this.”
Over the years, the games have been hosted in several locations, with last year’s in Vancouver-Whistler and 2027’s in Birmingham, England. This honor comes amid Prince Harry and his family’s reunion with King Charles at Highgrove House in Gloucestershire, England.
This private gathering was the first time the monarch had met his grandchildren since 2022. It was reported that no details or photos of the reunion would be made public, as it was a private family gathering. However, Harry and Markle faced backlash recently, with some accusing them of leaking information about their reunion with King Charles. This happened after sources close to the couple shared a few insights about the private gathering with Vanity Fair.
