A desperate bid for closure backfired in the latest episode of The Vampire Lestat. What began as a supernatural reunion ended with a twist that has thrown the fates of both Louis and Lestat into doubt.
Sunday’s episode, titled “Montreal,” built toward an emotional crescendo before pulling the rug out from under viewers. Louis and Lestat, having clawed their way toward something resembling mutual understanding, turned to the witch Merrick for one impossible favour. They wanted to speak to Claudia. They got far more than they bargained for.

The séance succeeded in summoning Claudia’s furious spirit. But rather than granting absolution, she unleashed unrestrained venom upon her makers. Sam Reid, who plays Lestat, confirmed the scene’s brutal honesty. “She does get to say how it actually was and how she actually feels and that she hates the two of them,” Reid told Decider. “She absolutely hates them. And that is canon. I mean, that is straight out of the books.”
Jacob Anderson called the moment “cathartic” for everyone involved. Reid described the sheer force of watching co-star Delainey Hayles perform the tirade. “It was wonderful to see Delainey let rip like that,” he remarked. The emotional devastation left Louis and Lestat reeling, yet worse was moments away.
Armand and Daniel Molloy had not come to Montréal to observe. With assistance from Lestat’s embittered guitarist Alex, they ambushed the pair and severed their heads. The scene left little room for interpretation. Two immortal leads, apparently dead. Fans flooded social media to process the whiplash. One viewer wrote, “New episode of The Vampire Lestat ripped my heart out and stepped on it.”
Fans of Anne Rice’s novels will recognize the attack. In the books, a coven outraged by Lestat’s public revelations strikes at both vampires. Gabriella intervenes to save them. The AMC adaptation has already deviated from its source material plenty, yet a rescue by Lestat’s mother remains the most plausible escape route.
The season finale airs next Sunday on AMC and AMC+.
