Don Lemon on Why Donald Trump Appears Obsessed With Barack Obama

Former CNN anchor Don Lemon has given a blunt diagnosis of Donald Trump’s long-running fixation with Barack Obama. This comes as the president recently made another Truth Social post mocking the Obamas.

Don Lemon’s theory about Trump’s Obama obsession centers on envy and resentment

Lemon laid out his argument on The Don Lemon Show after Trump circulated a doctored photo on Truth Social. The doctored photo showed Barack and Michelle Obama waving in front of a vandalised Air Force One, its fuselage scrawled with “Yes We Can,” “BLM,” and the Arabic phrase “alhamdulillah.” Lemon called the post “embarrassing” and said it reveals more about Trump than about his target. “He is so jealous of Barack Obama, he cannot stand it,” Lemon said.

The journalist framed the rivalry as a collision of personal histories. Trump, he suggested, recognises a stature in Obama that remains out of reach. Lemon listed the attributes he believes fuel the resentment: “the class, the grace, the good looks, the education, the beautiful family, the beautiful wife.”

Furthermore, he then contrasted with Trump’s own personal life. “One wife, not three or four baby mamas. Not cheating, not with hookers,” Lemon remarked, before referencing the Stormy Daniels allegations. “When your wife had just had a baby and you’re out banging a porn star, according to everyone and according to your NDA, and paying her off.”

The social media broadside against the Obamas fits a pattern. Earlier this year, Trump got backlash from fellow Republicans and his opposition for posting a photo that showed the couple as apes. Lemon views these provocations as an involuntary admission. “It exposes himself at every turn,” he said.

Obama has taken public note of the dynamic. Earlier on the All The Smoke podcast in June, he quipped, “Obviously, you know, I have a room in his head—a suite in his head.” He described Trump’s preoccupation as evidence of misplaced focus, adding, “It shows me somebody who’s not focused on the American people and the job they’re supposed to do.”

The White House responded through spokesman Davis Ingle, who dismissed Lemon as “a low ratings loser that no one takes seriously.”
