Jon Hamm & Zoey Deutch’s Outrageous New Comedy Is Winning Over Critics on RT

Early reviews for the comedy Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass, starring Zoey Deutch and Jon Hamm, have started to come in. Many critics now seem to be saying the same thing about the movie. Helmed by David Wain, the Sony Pictures Classics feature is still some days away from its theatrical release, but initial reactions indicate a warm reception for the film.

Reviews are in for Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass

The 94-minute movie revolves around the misadventures of Gail Daughtry, played by Zoey Deutch. She is a hairdresser in rural Kansas who embarks on a chaotic bender after her fiancé cashes in on his “celebrity pass” during a book signing. Dismayed by her partner’s betrayal, Gail decides to even the scales by courting Jon Hamm, her own “celebrity pass.”

David Gonzalez of The Cinematic Reel hailed the film’s premise in his review, stating, “Packed with memorable cameos, absurd detours, and a terrific lead performance from Zoey Deutch, Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass turns a ludicrous premise into an unexpectedly heartfelt adventure.”

VisAbleBlackwoman‘s Jeanine T. Abraham shared a similar reaction to the movie, writing, “In a world where we are bombarded by chaotic, depressing, and horrible news, it’s kinda nice to take ninety minutes to just laugh in a dark room in a movie that doesn’t take itself too seriously.”

Meanwhile, Nadine Whitney of AWFJ.com praised the film’s performances, noting, “This fish-out-of-water comedy relies heavily on increasingly ridiculous situations. No stranger to getting silly, filmmaker David Wain’s satire is rarely anything but silly. Charming performances by Deutch, Slattery, Wang, and very game Jon Hamm.”
