An ex-NYPD officer has criticized Taylor Swift, calling her “selfish” amid her wedding festivities at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Swift and Travis Kelce have employed extensive security measures for their celebrations. However, the massive security has reportedly stretched the city’s resources thin. The former officer argued that Swift and Kelce may not fully understand the impact of their actions.
Ex-NYPD officer slams Taylor Swift over MSG wedding plans
An ex-NYPD officer blasted Taylor Swift over her extravagant wedding festivities at Madison Square Garden. Sal Lifrieri, a 20-year NYPD veteran and former director of the force’s protective operations unit, has berated Swift for the timing and choice of the venue (via The U.S. Sun).
Lifrieri stated, “City resources are pushed to the limit as it is. I don’t think they’re recognizing the potential impact that they’re going to have.” He further explained that besides Swift’s wedding festivities, citizens are busy with Fourth of July celebrations and parties. “The amount of officers and first-response capability is really stretched. These guys are working 12-hour shifts, 7 days a week,” she stated.
Furthermore, Lifrieri pointed out how this results in traffic, chaos, and commotion, which in turn impacts people “unnecessarily.” “On a weekend, that’s ridiculous. I think it’s incredibly selfish and self-serving,” he slammed the pop star.
Moreover, Kenneth Corey, the former chief of department at the NYPD, explained to the New York Times that police will have to install “concrete barriers” to protect the venue from threats. Corey explained that because Swift and Kelce are massive celebrities, the star-studded event is “a very attractive terrorist target.” However, Lifrieri wasn’t in agreement with this and rebuked Swift, remarking that she “ain’t the president.”
A law enforcement official previously confirmed to the Associated Press that Swift and Kelce are indeed getting married on July 3 at Madison Square Garden. The couple is hosting multi-day events, which commence with a rehearsal dinner at Infosys Theater for 100 people on July 2. This will foray into bigger celebrations with approximately 1,000–2,000 people in attendance on July 3.
