The upcoming X-Men reboot may not be the only Marvel Studios film expected to focus on mutant characters. A new report has suggested that another major sequel slated for the franchise’s next phase could also feature a strong mutant connection. Although the claim remains unconfirmed, it has sparked fresh speculation about Marvel’s long-term plans.
X-Men may not be Marvel’s only upcoming movie focused on mutants
Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men reboot may not be the franchise’s only film centered on mutant characters. A new report claims another Phase 7 project could also shift its focus toward mutants, pointing to Black Panther 3 as the rumored title.
The claim surfaced during Alex Perez’s June 2026 Q&A with members of The Cosmic Circus’ Discord community. When asked what mutant-related projects fans could expect outside of X-Men during the next saga, the industry scooper pointed to Black Panther 3, replying, “Black Panther 3 is one for sure.” However, as of now, Marvel Studios has not confirmed the report.
Perez has also previously shared additional claims regarding the direction of Black Panther 3. During an earlier Q&A for The Cosmic Circus, he said the sequel could follow a coming-of-age story centered around Shuri while also introducing the son of the original Black Panther. According to Perez, “he’ll just be called T’Challa moving forward.”
Perez also shared additional claims about the sequel’s alleged storyline. According to the scooper, the film could center on “legacy and what it means for T’Challa to inherit the title of Black Panther.” He additionally claimed that Nakia would oppose her son inheriting the throne and taking on the role of Black Panther. However, none of these plot details have been verified by Marvel Studios, and they should be treated as speculation until the studio provides official confirmation.
For now, Marvel Studios has yet to reveal any story information about Black Panther 3. The sequel also remains without an official release date.
