Kate Middleton & Meghan Markle’s Resurfaced Wimbledon Moment Raises New Questions — Expert

Years before their relationship became one of the most closely scrutinized in the royal family, Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton stepped out together for what appeared to be a warm and friendly day at Wimbledon.

Now, nearly eight years later, that same appearance is back in the spotlight after a body language expert spoke to The Daily Mail and suggested the outing may have revealed subtle signs of the royal dynamic Meghan was still adjusting to as the newest member of the Firm.

A body language expert believes the 2018 outing hinted at an early royal dynamic

A resurfaced royal outing from 2018 is once again making headlines. Nearly eight years after Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton attended Wimbledon together for their first solo engagement as sisters-in-law, a body language expert is revisiting the appearance, suggesting the event may have offered an early glimpse into the pair’s evolving royal dynamic. The outing took place on July 14, 2018, less than two months after Meghan married Prince Harry.

The Duchess of Sussex joined the then-Duchess of Cambridge to watch Serena Williams face Angelique Kerber in the Wimbledon ladies’ singles final. At the time, photos from the day showed the two smiling together and chatting courtside. However, body language expert Judi James told the Daily Mail that the video footage paints a different picture. According to James, Meghan appeared to expect a more informal partnership, while Catherine remained focused on carrying out her official duties as royal patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

James pointed to several moments, including Meghan appearing to wait for Catherine outside the venue before the pair greeted officials. She also claimed Meghan attempted to walk and speak alongside Catherine during introductions, describing the behavior as an effort to “break rank” within the royal hierarchy. James further suggested that Catherine maintained a professional approach throughout the engagement, prioritizing protocol over personal interaction.

The expert also argued that Meghan’s body language reflected uncertainty and discomfort as attention centered on Catherine, who was already an established senior royal. James added that Meghan’s tendency to take the lead during public appearances with Prince Harry in later years may have made adapting to the monarchy’s formal structure more challenging. While neither Meghan nor Catherine has commented on the renewed analysis, the resurfaced outing has sparked fresh discussion among royal watchers, with many revisiting one of the pair’s earliest public appearances together in light of everything that followed.
