While royal cars are usually associated with polished appearances and official engagements, it seems like one of King Charles’ personal vehicles, which he really enjoys driving himself, carries a surprisingly down-to-earth message, which has, honestly, been noticed by a lot of people.
According to his former royal butler, Grant Harrold, the monarch proudly displays a bumper sticker supporting one of the environmental causes that lies closest to his heart, offering a rare glimpse into his personal passions beyond palace walls.
King Charles’ ex-butler says that his car bumper sticker says a lot about who he is
Although King Charles typically rides in a chauffeured car to official events, he also enjoys driving himself. Former royal butler Grant Harrold, who served the King at Highgrove House from 2004 to 2011, revealed that one of Charles’ vehicles reflects his dedication to wildlife conservation. Harrold, speaking to Select Car Leasing via Marie Claire, said His Majesty owns “a Jaguar which has a big sticker on the back saying ‘Save the Red Squirrel’.”
As patron of the Red Squirrel Survival Trust, the sticker holds special significance for King Charles, who has supported the charity since 2009. The King wrote in a letter to the Red Squirrel Survival Trust, “As you will all know so well, these charming and intelligent creatures never fail to delight. I take enormous pleasure in having them around – and in! – the house when I am at home in Scotland.” King Charles also praised the “inquisitive and delightful characters” in his note, adding, “they have even been known to hunt down a few of their favourite nuts left out in an unguarded jacket pocket!”
But that’s not all, Harrold also recalled that the bumper sticker became a lighthearted talking point within the royal household. “We couldn’t believe it when we found out, we used to joke about it a lot in the staff room,” he said, adding that “Prince William used to mock his dad for it a lot, in a loving way, of course, but it’s just such a random thing to do.” The amusing anecdote highlights how the King’s commitment to wildlife conservation extends beyond royal engagements and into his everyday life, with even his personal car reflecting a cause he has supported for years.
