Olivia Wilde says she resented being told to stay silent about Harry Styles relationship
In a candid interview with The Cut, Olivia Wilde offered a glimpse into her highly publicized relationship with Harry Styles a few years ago. The former couple briefly dated for a year after Styles starred in the Hollywood star’s 2022 directorial feature, Don’t Worry Darling.
Moreover, the movie sparked discourse after speculation surfaced about the cast. This includes Shia LaBeouf’s departure and Wilde’s reported feud with leading star Florence Pugh. However, Wilde’s relationship with Styles created the most buzz.
Recounting the media frenzy surrounding the relationship, Wilde has now opened up about what went on behind the scenes. “I was told, ‘Don’t say a f***ing word. Just go out there and smile,'” Wilde recalled. “I resent that, but it taught me it’s not the way I want to handle things,” the actress added.
Wilde also addressed the rumors that she feuded with Florence Pugh on set while filming Don’t Worry Darling. The actress and director set the record straight, stating, “I have never had a screaming match on my set.” She added, “I was never not available on set. I wanted to be like, ‘None of this is true.’”
Furthermore, Wilde looked back bitterly on the experience. She then claimed that Hollywood has “robbed me of my naïveté for sure.” “I deeply hate the feeling of being misunderstood, too,” she added.
Most recently, Wilde directed and starred in the 2026 comedy film, The Invite. The movie arrives in theaters on June 26, under A24.
