A report suggests that the popularity of the name “Donald” has declined significantly since Donald Trump returned to office. It noted that the name peaked in the 1930s, but far fewer people bear it today. Over the years, Trump has garnered massive fame in politics, business, and entertainment while, in recent years, making sure to brand federal buildings.
New report shows Americans aren’t naming their kids ‘Donald’ anymore
According to data from the Social Security Administration reviewed by NOTUS, the popularity of the name Donald has declined over the years, with it being at its lowest in 2025. The name has Scottish origins and means “ruler of the world.” It was a massively famous name in 1934, with many American parents naming their babies Donald. The popularity extended until 1990, with the name being placed in the top 100 ranks. However, this doesn’t seem to be the case in the present, given it’s now the 690th most popular name.
The decline in popularity was observed ever since Trump’s influence in the country continued to grow, following his business and political endeavors. The evidence is that when The Apprentice premiered in 2004, the name dropped to No. 263. It further dropped into the 400 category when Trump became the president of the United States. In his first year in office, Donald’s name did see a slight increase in the country, but was quickly followed by a decline.
Back in 2016, Trump admitted that he used other names for himself to purchase real estate during a conversation on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live. While he denied impersonating as his own spokesperson, he did reveal that he used the name “Barron” as an alias.
“I used an alias in terms of setting up a meeting with Mr. Donald Trump. And many people in the real estate business do that, you use alias. And you have to, frankly, otherwise they find out it’s you and they charge you more money — and nobody wants to pay more money,” he explained.
