Wagner Moura rumored for James Bond and X-Men villains

Amazon and Marvel Studios are reportedly eyeing Wagner Moura to play James Bond and X-Men villains for them. However, this is currently only a rumor.

Citing a source, the scooper Doom’s Servant first shared on X (formerly Twitter) that the Brazilian actor-filmmaker is in talks to play Sebastian Shaw in the X-Men reboot. They added, “The film will paint a wide picture of the mutant world, introducing Shaw as a significant player moving forward.”

Meanwhile, industry insider Jeff Sneider recently shared in his newsletter that Moura’s name was being put forward as “a potential James Bond villain.” He continued, “So we’ll see which major franchise lands his sinister services in the wake of his Oscar-nominated turn in The Secret Agent” (via ComicBookMovie).

Furthermore, Sneider also offered a major update on the X-Men reboot’s development. He shared that the reboot film and Black Panther 3 will start pre-production in the fourth quarter of 2026. Additionally, he corroborated the earlier rumor that suggested Riverdale breakout Charles Melton was in consideration for Beast.

Casting for the next iteration of James Bond began last month. In a statement, Amazon shared that the company does not plan to address “specific details” during the process. However, they promised to share more news “as soon as the time [was] right.”

Denis Villeneuve is directing the movie from a screenplay by Steven Knight. Amy Pascal and David Heyman are producing through their respective banners, Pascal Pictures and Heyday Films.

Meanwhile, Jake Schreier is directing the X-Men film reboot, which will be penned by Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo. The trio previously worked together on the Netflix anthology series, Beef.

While casting hasn’t been finalized, names like Sophie Thatcher, Sydney Sweeney, and Hunter Schafer have also been rumored to be attached. Schreier dismissed them as unofficial choices, clarifying that he and the creative team are following a “process.”
