Construction, one insider told the outlet, is “a very small world,” and people in the trade are known for talking. As per the source, if a name gets tied to payment trouble, it tends to stick. Some contractors are reportedly skipping the project altogether. Sources claim others are demanding big deposits and firm guarantees before they’ll sign on. The new mindset, according to one source, is “cash up front, then we’ll talk.”
A different insider was even more direct, saying, “people aren’t lining up for this job anymore.” The money is there, the source added, but “the trust isn’t.”
Another source pushed back on the idea that affordability is the real issue. The couple can clearly pay to finish the house. According to this insider, “the issue is confidence.”
