AMC Theatres Delays Planned Events This Month for a Good Reason

AMC Theatres is walking back on its plans to simulcast a series of live concerts this summer, but that’s good news. The theater chain has postponed the events to accommodate increased demand for theatrical releases.

Why is AMC Theatres delaying planned events this month?

AMC Theatres has postponed its AMC Girls Night Live concert screenings featuring performers such as Bebe Rexha, Paris Hilton, Kim Petras, and Maren Morris. Viewers who signed up for it will be refunded, but for a good reason: the 2026 box office is doing great. Movies like Obsession and Backrooms have performed strongly at the box office, with more theatrical releases on the way in the coming weeks.

“Week after week in 2026, the domestic box office performance has exceeded or met expectations,” AMC said in a statement (via Variety). “With a robust lineup of films and strong advance ticket sales in the weeks ahead, AMC is making some programming adjustments during the month of June.”

AMC did not comment on when it will resume plans to screen the concerts. “AMC is very excited about its partnership with Arena One, and we look forward to announcing updated dates and additional artists in the weeks and months ahead,” added AMC reps.

According to Variety, the summer box office collections are up 13% year-over-year. At the time of writing, films have collectively grossed more than $288 million at the U.S. box office in June (via Box Office Mojo). May was also a great month for movies, with films grossing over $1 billion, mostly bolstered by smash hits like Michael and The Devil Wears Prada 2.

The weeks ahead will see major franchise installments like Toy Story 5, Supergirl, Minions & Monsters, Evil Dead Burn, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day release in theaters. They will be competing with other event films like Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. Disney is also releasing a live-action remake of Moana, which is noteworthy as most live-action Disney remakes do well at the box office.
