Ben Affleck’s ex Jennifer Lopez shared her thoughts on how people often mistake strength for cruelty. The multihyphenate icon sat down for a joint interview with co-star Brett Goldstein. The duo stars as love interests in the Netflix workplace romcom, Office Romance. Lopez plays Jackie Cruz, the chief executive of an airline. Meanwhile, Goldstein portrays Daniel Blanchflower, a member of the company’s legal team.
Ben Affleck’s ex-wife Jennifer Lopez says she is not like her Office Romance character
At one point during the New York Times interview, Ben Affleck’s ex-wife, Jennifer Lopez, insisted that the characters in Office Romance had the wrong perception of her character. “What I liked about it is that [the other characters] get her wrong. She is an intimidating, strong woman, but they mistake that for she’s a monster. The truth is, when you get to know her, as [Daniel] does, he’s like, ‘You’re the funniest, goofiest, most lovable person in the world.’ I connected to that very much,” Lopez said.
Journalist Ashley Spencer asked whether audiences viewed the actress in the same way the characters viewed Jackie. “One hundred percent. It makes you crazy because you’re like, can you just relax? I’m fine. I don’t bite — until I know you better,” the Save Me Tonight singer replied. “But I don’t bite, and I don’t yell, and I’m not an unkind person. People, just because they see you as this thing out there, it’s almost like you’re a two-dimensional character.”
Lopez then continued that Goldstein might have had his doubts about her being like Jackie. She said, “Maybe he suspected that’s what my life was like. He didn’t know how I was going to be. He could have thought, well, maybe all these rumors are true.” In the interview, the Ted Lasso star stated that “it’s insane” that the songstress agreed to star in the movie.
