Months after he was elected the Mayor of New York City, socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani has taken a page from Tesla boss Elon Musk’s book by launching a city Commission on Government Efficiency (COGE). The commission will reportedly ensure that the city works “smarter, faster, and more effectively” for working people.
Zohran Mamdani introduces Elon Musk-style COGE
Much like Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in early 2025, Zohran Mamdani has launched the City Commission on Government Efficiency (COGE). The initiative aims to “find ways for our city to work smarter, faster, and more effectively for working people.”
However, in sharp contrast to Musk’s initiative, Mamdani’s commission will be staffed by a group of progressives and Democrats. It will also include a George Soros-aligned chair (via FOX).
Mamdani added about this commission, “New Yorkers deserve a city government as careful with their money as they are.”
Patrick Gaspard, a longtime Democratic operative, will head COGE. He previously served as executive director of the Democratic National Committee. He has also served as president of the Soros family’s Open Society Foundation.
The statement by New York City has claimed that Mamdani gave the responsibility of reviewing the “entire New York City Charter” to the commission so that they can determine ways to “better support public excellence by improving efficiency, modernizing city government and ensuring government keeps pace with New Yorkers’ needs.”
The statement further asserted that COGE is expected to remove “outdated bureaucratic barriers that slow infrastructure projects and delay services.” Mamdani further said in the statement that “for too long, bureaucracy has stood in the way of delivering the housing, transit, child care, and public services our city needs.” The Mayor added, “restoring faith in government starts with proving government can actually deliver.”
Since the arrival of Zohran Mandani, there have been several big changes in New York City. Moreover, citizens expect more such positive initiatives from the Mayor.
