Avengers: Doomsday & Secret Wars Rumor Hints at Possible Kang the Conqueror Storyline

Marvel may be incorporating elements of Kang the Conqueror’s story in upcoming Avengers movies. The company pivoted from Kang to Victor von Doom as the villain of its next Avengers film a few years ago. However, fans have been wondering whether Marvel will acknowledge Kang actor Jonathan Majors or any plot elements from the scrapped Avengers: The Kang Dynasty in the MCU.

In a recent Q&A about the next Avengers movies, scooper Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus was asked if there’s anything he’s excited to see that hasn’t been revealed yet. Perez answered, “Even though he’s not in either movie, He Who Remains won. And we’ll leave it at that.”

He Who Remains is a variant of Kang the Conqueror, played by Jonathan Majors, who first appeared at the end of Loki Season 1. There, the villain revealed that if he were killed by Loki and Sylvie, then the sacred timeline would be open to an attack from the other Kangs across the multiverse. Sylvie killed He Who Remains in the season 1 finale, but Loki later takes control of the timeline to prevent multiversal collapse in the Season 2 finale. Following that, one of the TVA’s new missions becomes monitoring and containing timelines with Kang variants.

Perez said that Majors won’t appear in the movie following his legal troubles and, consequently, being fired by Marvel. However, the rumor, if true, suggests that the MCU has plans to wrap up the Kang storyline following Ant-Man 3’s post-credits scene. It should be noted that this is just a rumor at this time, and it should be taken with a grain of salt, as Marvel has not commented on the matter.

Before it was Doomsday, Avengers 5 would have focused on Kang, after introducing the character in multiple projects. The MCU has introduced several major variants of Kang, including He Who Remains, Kang the Conqueror, Victor Timely, Immortus, Rama-Tut, and Centurion. This is after discounting the countless unnamed Kang variants seen forming the council of Kangs at the end of Ant-Man 3. Plot details for The Kang Dynasty were kept under wraps, though it also would have led into Avengers: Secret Wars.

Avengers: Doomsday is currently slated to release in theaters on December 18, 2026.
