Ahead of the final episode of “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” on Thursday night, President Donald Trump was asked by a reporter if he had something to say about the host and his show. In reply, Trump sent Stephen Colbert a vague warning, saying he will deliver a “message” to the comedian later.
Donald Trump on Stephen Colbert’s last talk show: ‘I will have a message at a later date’
“The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” came to an end on May 21, ending its 11-year run with the host. However, it seems President Donald Trump has something to say to Stephen Colbert. On Wednesday, ahead of the show finale, when the president was asked by a reporter if he had something to say to the host of the late-night news talk show, Trump replied, “I’ll have a message at a later date,” while addressing reporters at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland.
When approached for further comment, White House spokesman David Ingle told The Independent, “Stephen Colbert is a pathetic trainwreck with no talent and terrible ratings, which is exactly why CBS canceled his show and is booting him off the airwaves.” Last July, when CBS announced that the show would end in May 2026, many believed that Trump might be involved in the decision.
But when the news broke, the president denied his involvement, writing on Truth Social that, “Everybody is saying that I was solely responsible for the firing of Stephen Colbert from CBS, Late Night. That is not true!” Instead, he revealed the reason behind the move, saying that Colbert was “fired” due to “lack of TALENT, and the fact that this deficiency was costing CBS $50 Million Dollars a year in losses — And it was only going to get WORSE!”
Nevertheless, on Thursday, Colbert delivered the final monologue of his tenure on the show. “We were lucky enough to be here for the last 11 years. You can’t take this for granted,” the host said at the final broadcast.
