It seems like John Travolta’s directing career is only just beginning. After all, he recently claimed that he is not ruling out directing even beyond this, as he spoke to Reuters. This was while making his debut behind the camera at the 2026 edition of the Cannes Film Festival.
During this interaction, the “From Paris With Love” actor seemed to have admitted that he would only return to the director’s chair for a project that he feels sincerely connected to. This has clearly left his ardent fans feeling excited.
John Travolta reveals if he has plans to direct in future after Cannes debut
Speaking to Reuters at the Cannes Film Festival 2026 about his directing experience as a whole, John Travolta said directing was an “all-consuming” experience. He also explained that passion would be essential if he ever took on the role again. While discussing his film “Propeller One-Way Night Coach” and elaborating on this, Travolta explained, “When people say, ‘Would you direct again?’ I say I have to be passionate because it’s all-consuming, so you have to love it that much!”
Furthermore, the beloved Hollywood legend also admitted that making “Propeller One-Way Night Coach” was overwhelming. The project holds special meaning for Travolta, as it centres on a young aviation enthusiast taking a life-changing flight to Los Angeles during the glamorous flying era of the 1950s and 1960s.
A longtime aviation lover and licensed pilot himself, Travolta said the film reflected many of the things closest to his heart. “It was me being overwhelmed with the things I love and my family and my friends,” he added.
In fact, it seems like the “Urban Cowboy” actor took on nearly every major role behind the scenes for the film. He not only served as a producer and financier, but also as a director, narrator, and writer. After all, the applause-worthy movie was also based on a book that Travolta had published around 30 years ago. Several members of his family also appeared in the film, including his daughter, Ella Bleu Travolta, who described being on set with her father as feeling “like a master class.”
