A Little Bit of Heaven will depart from Netflix’s content library on Sunday, June 7 (via What’s on Netflix).
The film was directed by Nicole Kassell. She is popular for her work on titles such as Better Call Saul, The Following, Rectify, and Watchmen. Meanwhile, Gren Wells served as the writer for A Little Bit of Heaven.
The story centers on Marley Corbett, a carefree executive living in New Orleans. Known for her humor, Marley actively avoids serious relationships. However, her life changes dramatically when she is diagnosed with terminal cancer. During her treatment, she meets Julian Goldstein, a doctor she eventually falls in love with. As her cancer worsens, she gains a new perspective on different aspects of her life.
A Little Bit of Heaven’s cast features Kate Hudson as Marley, Peter Dinklage as Vinnie, Gael García Bernal as Julian, Kathy Bates as Beverly, Whoopi Goldberg as God, Lucy Punch as Sarah, and Romany Malco as Peter, among others.
Released on May 4, 2012, A Little Bit of Heaven received predominantly negative reviews from the critics. As a result, its Rotten Tomatoes approval rating stands at an abysmal 4%, based on 53 critics. Its audience score, based on more than 10,000 user ratings, is 52%, which is a comparatively favorable rating. The film’s Metacritic ratings are not much different. There, it has a critic score of 14 out of 100, and a user score of 5.1 out of 10.
The negative reception seemingly led to the film’s underwhelming box office performance. According to Box Office Mojo, it grossed $6.7 million globally.
