Jennifer Lopez Reveals ‘Chemistry’ With Brett Goldstein Grew on Film Set

Jennifer Lopez’s chemistry with her “Office Romance” co-star, Brett Goldstein, is the talk of the town, and it is the kind of easy chemistry one cannot fake on camera. Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at the Netflix Upfront in New York City on May 13, the singer-actor opened up about working with the “Ted Lasso” breakout on their upcoming film, and her verdict was quite direct. She told the outlet, “We had great chemistry to begin with.”

Jennifer Lopez talks about having ‘great chemistry’ with co-star Brett Goldstein from the beginning

Speaking of her chemistry with Brett Goldstein, Jennifer Lopez told PEOPLE, “It just grew as we did the film together.” Lopez, who played the hopelessly romantic Kat Valdez in “Marry Me” and built a career in love stories on the big screen, thought she knew what she was getting with Goldstein — except she did not.

The “On The Floor” hitmaker admitted, “I was a huge fan of his from him doing ‘Ted Lasso.’ Roy Kent, that’s one of my favorite characters.” She also revealed, “I expected more of a rough guy, but you get this kind, gentle but also very smart person that is so charming,” which she thought “was a surprise.”

Additionally, Lopez said, “I thought he was going to be more like the character, but he was so soft-spoken and sweet and totally different.”

Director Ol Parker saw the spark between Lopez and Goldstein before shooting a single scene. He told PEOPLE, “I had lunch with them way before we began, and we just laughed all the way through the lunch, and I was like, ‘Oh, this is gonna go great.'”

Goldstein, for his part, co-wrote the script with Joe Kelly and admitted that they wrote the part of Jackie Cruz specifically for Lopez, as he told PEOPLE, “We started asking ourselves who the best rom-com star is, and without hesitation, we both said JLo.”

He added, “It’s easy to write a rom-com when you have JLo in mind. She’s the best at this stuff. We just wanted to write something funny and smart enough to be worthy of her saying yes.”

“Office Romance” will premiere on Netflix on June 5.
