Both seasons of a true-crime show featuring David Duchovny are set to exit Netflix‘s library next month. Despite its intriguing plot and favorable ratings, the show couldn’t maintain steady viewership and was canceled after just two seasons.
Both seasons of Aquarius are leaving Netflix next month
NBC’s Aquarius Seasons 1-2 will exit Netflix’s library on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 (via What’s on Netflix).
The show combines real-life figures with fictional elements for a captivating slow-burn crime drama. It takes place in late-1960s Los Angeles during the rise of Charles Manson and his cult, which was often called the Manson Family.
Aquaris follows LAPD detective Sam Hodiak as he investigates the disappearance of a teenage girl connected to the cult leader. A younger officer, Brian Shafe, joins Sam as they uncover the secrets of the cult and investigate the infamous 1969 Tate murders committed by the Manson Family.
The show’s cast features David Duchovny as Sam, Grey Damon as Brian, Gethin Anthony as Charles Manson, Emma Dumont as Emma, and Claire Holt as Charmain, among others.
John McNamara (producer of Trumbo and The Magicians) created Aquarius for NBC. It premiered on May 28, 2015, and ran for two seasons. Its finale, “I Will,” aired on September 10, 2016. It had 26 episodes in total.
NBC reportedly broadcast the Season 2 premiere ad-free as a test run. The two-episode premiere drew 2.7 million. However, it fell to 1.2 million for the finale (via The Hollywood Reporter). McNamara had planned out a six-season story arc, but the less-than-favorable viewership numbers ultimately led to the show’s cancellation.
Aquaris received favorable ratings on review-aggregator sites. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a 78% Tomatometer score and a 73% Popcornmeter score. Meanwhile, on Metacritic, it has a user score of 6.4.
Netflix subscribers have a limited time to stream the David Duchovny-starring series on the platform before it exits next month.
