After debuting a first look last week, Prime Video has released the first teaser trailer for Elle, a prequel series to the Legally Blonde movies, along with announcing a release date. The upcoming series will follow Elle Woods in high school in 1995, before the events of 2001’s Legally Blonde. Elle will be played by Lexi Minetree (Law & Order: SVU), who replaces Reese Witherspoon from the original franchise.
Elle will follow the eponymous protagonist as she encounters “tricky friendships, forbidden romance, and questionable fashion choices”, as revealed in the synopsis. Of course, Elle won’t be alone as she “uses her family as a touchstone” to get through her problems in high school, shaping her into the character fans know and love.

What do we see in the Elle teaser trailer?
The teaser shows Elle moving from Bel-Air to Seattle, with hints that she’s struggling to fit in at her new school. The trailer also comes with the announcement that Prime Video has already renewed the series for a second season, which will begin production in spring.
Besides Minetree, the series also stars June Diane Raphael as Elle’s mother, Eva, and Tom Everett Scott as her father, Wyatt, alongside Jacob Moskovitz, Gabrielle Policano, Chandler Kinney, Zac Looker, and Amy Pietz. The recurring cast includes Gabrielle Policano, Jacob Moskovitz, Chandler Kinney, Zac Looker, Jessica Belkin, Logan Shroyer, Amy Pietz, Matt Ober, Chloe Wepper, David Burtka, Brad Harder, Kayla Maisonet, Lisa Yamada, and the late James Van Der Beek.
The series is created and co-produced by Laura Kittrell (Insecure), who is joined by Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries) as executive producer. Reese Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, Amanda Brown, and Marc Platt also serve as executive producers. Amazon also revealed that the first two episodes are directed by Jason Moore of Pitch Perfect fame.
Elle will start streaming on Prime Video from July 1, 2026.
