A new rumor suggests that a dangerous Spider-Man: Brand New Day villain will have a prominent role in the MCU moving forward. Hitting theaters this summer, the upcoming movie will feature several new antagonists who appear to bring different challenges to the titular hero’s vigilante career.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day may not be Scorpion’s last movie
According to a new rumor, Michael Mando’s Mac Gargan a.k.a. Scorpion will return to the MCU after Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The rumor comes from notable scooper MyTimetoShineHello. They wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Scorpion will return.” However, they did not specify in which projects the character will show up next.
A recent rumor has suggested that Scorpion will be a major antagonistic force in Brand New Day alongside Tombstone.
Details about Gargan’s role in the overarching narrative are being kept under wraps. However, it is known from the film’s teaser trailer released last month that he will fight Spider-Man at some point in the film. Moreover, the footage suggests that his conflict with the hero may not be a priority, as he is likely after something or someone else and views the latter as simply an obstacle in his path. This is evident in the 1:58 mark when he coldly warns the webslinger to “stay out of [his] way.”
Gargan last appeared in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. A criminal associate of Adrian Toomes (Vulture), the FBI arrested him after Spider-Man interfered in a transaction involving salvaged alien weaponry between Gargan and Toomes’ team. He later appeared in the film’s mid-credits scene, swearing revenge on the hero and asking Toomes about the webslinger’s identity.
Meanwhile, Brand New Day swings into theaters on July 31, 2026. Destin Daniel Cretton directed the film from a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. Meanwhile, Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige co-produced the movie with Amy Pascal (Pascal Pictures), Avi Arad, and Rachel O’Connor.
Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. The movie’s supporting cast includes Zendaya as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned, Sadie Sink in an undisclosed role, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/Punisher, Tramell Tillman as Bill, and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk.
