‘Genuinely Disappointed’: MCU’s Reported Professor X Casting Concerns X-Men Fans

Marvel fans are disappointed over the new X-Men casting report. There have been multiple reports about the casting of Professor X. Some fans demand that James McAvoy be recast. However, a new rumor from an insider suggests that a new actor has taken up the role, much to the dismay of many fans.

X insider MyTimeToShineHello recently posted that Christopher Abbott has officially been cast as Professor X in the MCU’s X-Men Reboot. This news was not taken positively by fans on the platforms. A fan commented, “I hope this is wrong. He looks nothing like Charles. Why the hell not bring back McAvoy and Fassbender? Seriously. Would have been the smartest thing to do.”

Moreover, @Processor_21 added, “I’m genuinely concerned about the future of Marvel with casting ngl.” and @MayhemWatcher added, “Wtf! What he looks more like his grandson. bad cast again.”

Some fans also argued that Abbott wasn’t fit for the role of Professor X. @K_Messias_ commented, “Professor X casting is one of those roles where you’ve got TWO impossible acts to follow. Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy set the bar ridiculously high.” Another comment stated that the actor looks “more like a Magneto.”

Why Marvel’s reported X-Men casting plans are sparking backlash among MCU fans

There are many concerns about the new MCU casting plans that have been leaked in recent months. Most of these concerns, specifically about core X-Men characters, come from the previous X-Men movies. Since this is a reboot, fans clearly know what they want and what they do not want in the MCU’s version.

It goes without saying that any actor playing Professor X needs to go beyond the bar set by Stewart and McVoy for the character. This also applies to Michael Fassbender and Ian McKellen’s Magneto. There are other concerns regarding the mental manipulation which is part of his origin story as a superhero, and the erasure of his history as a Holocaust survivor. Additionally, many fans are skeptical of Kevin Feige’s idea to cast younger actors in the reboot.

That said, not all of the casting rumors have been taken negatively. For instance, the Samara Weaving cast as Emma Frost report received a lot more positive comments, with some stating, “If Samara Weaving nails the attitude, fans will forget every fancast overnight.”

These casting details are, so far, only rumors from scoopers. No official announcement of the X-Men Reboot cast has been made by Marvel or Disney.
