Ray J, who has been engaged in a legal battle with former partner Kim Kardashian and her mother, Kris Jenner, reportedly faces a lawsuit of $7 million for allegedly breaching a secret deal over the former couple’s 2007 sex tape scandal. The case has been in the spotlight for a while now.
Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner ask for $7M from Ray J, claims report
Kim Kardashian and Ray J have a complex shared history, which also includes a sextape from 2007. This tape was a major factor in Kardashian’s rise to mainstream popularity. It has also been an extremely controversial topic over the years.
The long-drawn legal drama between the rapper and the television personality over the sextape came to a culmination in 2023. This is when Kardashian agreed to pay a whopping $6 million in installments to Ray J for permanently silencing the discussion surrounding the infamous tape. The last installment was due in 2026.
However, things did not work out well till the end. In 2025, Kardashian and her mother, Kris Jenner, blasted Ray J in a May 2025 legal letter, blasting him for violating the NDA. They demanded he return the $5 million they had paid him. They also demanded that he pay $1 million to each of them for damages (via Page Six). This amounts to a total of $7 million that Ray J is expected to pay.
This started after Ray J accused the reality stars of being investigated for racketeering while on a livestream. The mother-daughter duo sued the rapper over this. Ray J countersued in November 2025, claiming that Kris Jenner and Kim Kardashian had violated the NDA by discussing the tape on their Hulu series, The Kardashians.
Meanwhile, as of April 2026, a Los Angeles judge denied Kim’s bid to keep the 2023 settlement private. They ruled that the family did not have enough evidence to prove that there could be potential harm in any disclosure.
The legal battle between Ray J and Kim Kardashian continues as of now.
