A new casting rumor has given Marvel fans exactly the name they didn’t know they were waiting for. One of Hollywood’s most in-demand stars is now reportedly on the radar for a role that demands equal parts charm, power, and ice-cold presence in the upcoming X-Men reboot.
Sydney Sweeney rumored to be eyed for Emma Frost in X-Men reboot cast
Marvel Studios is reportedly eyeing Sydney Sweeney for the role of Emma Frost in its upcoming X-Men reboot. Insider @MyTimeToShineH shared the casting rumor on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “Sydney Sweeney is being eyed for the role of Emma Frost in the MCU.” The post quickly gained traction, drawing over 2.2 million views within hours of going live.
Sweeney’s name has circulated in superhero casting discussions since her appearance in Madame Web. Fans have frequently linked The Housemaid star to roles like Power Girl and Black Cat. At 28, she fits the age range for a character Marvel could develop across multiple films.
Emma Frost first appeared as a villain and the White Queen of the Hellfire Club before joining the X-Men. She ran the Massachusetts Academy, a school that secretly trained young mutants called the Hellions. January Jones previously portrayed the character in 2011’s X-Men: First Class.
Jake Schreier is directing the X-Men reboot, with Beef creator Lee Sung Jin and The Bear co-showrunner Joanna Calo writing the script. Recent rumors have also linked Odessa A’Zion to Rogue and Peter Claffey to Beast. The film does not yet have a release date, but is rumored to begin shooting this year.
Sung Jin spoke about his personal connection to the franchise in an interview with Variety at the Beef Season 2 premiere. “I have fond memories of my father and [me] waking up on Saturday mornings to watch the X-Men cartoon,” he said.
He also shared his favorite characters, adding, “I love Gambit. I also love a lot of the side characters. I love Jubilee. Everyone goes for Cyclops and Wolverine, but for me growing up, I always loved the supporting members.”
The X-Men reboot is rumored to target a 2028 theatrical debut.
