Ivanka Trump has looked back at the 2024 assassination attempt on her father, Donald Trump. In a recent interview, she offered a rare personal account of watching the incident unfold in real time.
Ivanka Trump talks about Donald Trump getting shot
During a recent appearance on Steven Bartlett’s The Diary of a CEO podcast, Ivanka Trump opened up about watching the assassination attempt on Donald Trump. The incident took place on July 13, 2024, in Butler, Pennsylvania. The first daughter recalled seeing the incident unfold on television from the Trump family golf club in New Jersey.
“There was a lot of commotion. The televisions were on, so I saw it almost immediately,” Ivanka Trump recalled. She continued, “It was before he had stood back up that I had seen what was transpiring, and two of my children were there [with me]. My first reaction was to turn them away. It was incredibly difficult.”
However, after a brief moment of shock, Ivanka remained calm, sure that her father would be okay. “Interestingly, I knew in real time in that moment that he was fine. I just knew it wasn’t his time,” she shared. “I was horrified and scared and protective of my children, but I also didn’t believe the worst possible outcome had transpired. And thank God it hadn’t,” Ivanka added.
Reflecting on the terrifying moment, she said, “I just feel incredibly lucky that he was protected on that day. You can’t take things for granted, and I’ve learned that in numerous ways, that being one of them.”
Ivanka Trump added, “We were so fortunate that day that this was a failed attempt to take his life, not a realized one. But you sort of recommit to love and connection and to a recognition of how short our time here on earth is and how you have to value it.”
Officials later identified the shooter as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks. Following his assassination attempt on Donald Trump, Crooks was shot and killed at the scene by a Secret Service sniper.
