Season 2 of the Netflix sci-fi survival series The Eternaut has received a disappointing update from Francisco Ramos, the streaming giant’s vice president of content for Latin America. The Eternaut, an Argentine show, premiered on April 30, 2025. Netflix renewed it for the sophomore season shortly after.
Francisco Ramos shares an update on The Eternaut Season 2
Ramos confirmed during a new interview with Deadline that while The Eternaut Season 2 is officially in development, production hasn’t yet begun. He proceeded to detail the current stage of the project.
“The ambition has gone to a new level,” Ramos explained. “Stuff is already happening, but it’s not actually with actors on screen; it’s technical with some VFX conceptualization. The actual shoot with the talent on screen, we don’t know [the dates] yet because it’s way bigger than Season 1, not only in budget, but in terms of scope and conception.”
Ramos also expressed hope for Season 3. “We need to figure out how we deliver on everything that is expected to be delivered in Season 2, while yet being able to continue with it for a potential Season 3.” Further, Ramos stated that Netflix would try to bring The Eternaut back for Season 2 in 2027. “But I cannot promise anything,” he added.
Notably, series producer Matías Mosteirin told the same outlet back in May 2025 that Season 2 can potentially have eight episodes, two more than the first chapter.
Created by Bruno Stagnaro from Héctor Germán Oesterheld and Francisco Solano López’s classic comic book, The Eternaut revolves around a handful of survivors of a mysterious snowfall that wipes out most of the population of Buenos Aires.
Meanwhile, the cast includes Ricardo Darín as Juan Salvo, Carla Peterson as Elena, César Troncoso as Alfredo Favalli, Andrea Pietra as Ana, Dante Mastropierro, and Jorge Sesán. Season 1 currently has an incredible 96% approval rating on the review-aggregating site Rotten Tomatoes.
